I started writing in 2nd grade. We had to make up a story about something fairy tale; I took a real life experience and added an element of make-believe, and voila I wrote a story.
5th grade – same gig. All through Jr. High and High School, I found writing to be an outlet.
When I got to college, I began to put my life to words, writing every hard and trying experience onto paper.
At that time, however, most of my experiences were dissonant and hopeless. Typical of my generation, the idealism had fizzled into, what my mom calls, “gritty realism.” Sordid misery – though, compared to anything in the world, pathetic teenage angst.
As I began to really trust in Christ as the lens through which to see and heal the world, it dawned on me that my writing habits had to change.
At the same time, I met Eric, winsome, enjoyable – hopeful and encouraging. This blog began as an attempt to draw out of myself our experiences, which when we started dating were entirely lovely.
As I’ve matured over the last year +, I ‘ve realized that life is difficult, and now, I am trying to put our experiences through the lens of scripture – placing our lives in the refining fire and drawing forth what I am learning from walking with the Lord.
It is, of course, imperfect. Sometimes, it might seem downright depressing. But this is where we are – joyfully and gladly so – in the early years of marriage, with two businesses, an economic recession, a growing desire to witness to the gospel, and getting to know and love each other truly.
You probably won’t see Eric writing as much on here, though at the beginning, that was the idea – his outlet is photography, which you can see if you click on the link to his site. Mine is writing – and so, what you see is us growing, learning, and striving toward the goal – of bearing righteous fruit for the glory of God and for the good of the world.
